Introduction
When a client contacted us with an initial brief, we knew that would be a chance to get to know a different type of user with specific requests. Maxxo, a dynamic auction site, provides you with attractive and exceptionally low priced products through live-interactive auctions. Without any previous knowledge you can simply visit the website, register and your auction adventures can start.
This formidable task, given to us by our client, was to make the whole Maxxo experience exciting and original as well as easy to use. The goal ahead of us was clear. Maxxo had to be a leader in its category. The idea of designing a website for a future leading service of that type was very attractive to us, so we started to work immediately.
Challenges
There are a large number of auction sites with almost identical systems so the real challenge for our team was to make Maxxo distinctive from its competitors. Our setting of Maxxo we have based on top design, ease of use and the feel of safety which is always a sensitive task with the creation of any online trade. The initial research of the competition revealed to us that the greatest difficulties are caused by mixed-up information architecture, overcrowded layout and a motley color scheme which distract users’ attention from important information. That was the reason that we had to completely focus on design and usability by which Maxxo would surpass its competitors, become renown and thus keep its users.
To make a simpler information structure, which would be optimal with the quantity of information and visual elements, was the first real challenge we met. The impressionable identity of Maxxo website, which would be carved into visitors’ memory from the start was a very interesting creative challenge for our designers. On the other hand, the client was in a hurry so we engaged all available resources to be able to finalize the project in a minimal term.
Solutions
Maxxo website that we have created is clean and clear. It is easy to navigate with many call to action elements which, by their accessibility, enable easier and faster interaction with users. The design emphasizes products and Maxxo definitely exceeds its competitors on this issue.
Due to the short term we had, we organized our resources very carefully. The parallel production of design and development teams showed extremely efficient because both teams worked simultaneously, added to and supplemented each other. This very way of working made us succeed in dedicating ourselves to the details which are adjusted to all bidding needs and wishes.
To create a website perfectly serving users’ needs, and in harmony with the aim group, we had to take roles of bidders and get into their mindsets, and contest for bargains, risking by the way to become one of them.
The speed and time play a keyrole in bidding and we succeeded to gain that feel by using Ajax technology, so we could maximize the speed of page and product search, adding of products to the list of favorites etc. List view of products which are yet to be actual we have transformed in a large button by which a bidder adds that product
on his list of favorites, with no need to search for a click
space, so the whole process was reduced to very simple
and easy clicks that a user can easily
get accustomed to.
Results
Maxxo is still in beta version and we are expecting official launch very soon. At the moment the only certain measure of success is the satisfaction of our client whose click counter is “burning” and bank account filling in. We share the rejoicing of our client. As for the more exact data, we hope that we will be allowed to peek in the bank account of our client who will be more than satisfied.
