What’s it like being a Saturator?

It’s dope. The End.

Just kidding, for the most part anyway. Even if it’s an appropriate summary it doesn’t do justice to what the guys and gals of Saturized had to say about it. We’ve been thinking about writing something like this for a while, and it just kind of sat on a shelf somewhere in the back of our minds. Then, all of a sudden, eureka! We realized that if we were to do this thing, there was only one way to do it, we’d let the people speak for themselves. What a great decision it was. It’s one thing to believe in what you do and to believe that your team is on the same page, but to hear it from everyone is just… stupefying.

Hearing ideas like family, friendship, and happiness linked with being a Saturator really made some eyes water. These ideas are something we all have in our minds, but it’s nice to hear it loud and clear from time to time. There’s a lot to be said, so let’s jump right into it.

“These cups aren’t Saturated”

The words of our design director upon seeing damaged cups. When we asked Darko, one of our designers, what it meant to be a Saturator his reaction was priceless. You could see he was wracking his brain, trying to find the perfect sentence. We danced around a bit, until he found the perfect example of what he thought it meant. He remembered seeing Goran, our design director, trying to make a cup of coffee and pulling out a damaged cup. Now, cups are casualties in every office’s war against sleepiness, so it’s usually not that big a deal. But one of Saturized’s core values is striving for perfection in everything we do. Including having perfect cups. So in a sense this moment served as a perfect example of what it meant to be a Saturator. You never settle for mediocrity, no matter how trivial it may seem.

Learn baby, learn

If you want to create anything that’s cutting edge, you can never stop learning and improving. That’s how we see it anyway – and by “we” we do mean everybody. Not one of us failed to mention how we’ve learned something new since we started working in Saturized. From communication, working in a team, and managing projects to coding, designing, and developing. Since we started working together, we’ve all become better at what we do. We learn something new with every project, especially the ones that use new technologies. But that’s just part of it. We have some truly wonderful mentors here. They molded some of our younger Saturators into amazing professionals that knew very little, or nothing at all, when they came to us. Hiring the best of the best is easy, you just have to have enough mullah and the right conditions. But hiring someone that is completely inexperienced, and has very limited knowledge, can be much more rewarding. We help each other whenever we can, and teach each other what we can, and we’ve assembled an amazing team thanks to that.

In passion we trust

Love what you do, and it will love you back. Seriously, it works. We all believe that if coming to the office becomes just going to work to earn some cash, and nothing else, it’s not worth it anymore. While we’re on the topic of passion, there’s an anecdote that captures what it means to be passionate. It’s the story about how Maja, our front end developer, became a part of Saturized. She was looking for a place to learn the tricks of the trade, and sent a bunch of e-mails. We were the first to respond, and boy are we glad we were. For a year she came to the office without pay, to learn how to become a developer. What most of us didn’t know at the time, was that she lived in another city and took a bus every single day at 6am to be the first one in the office. When we found out we were dumbfounded by her dedication and passion. Today she’s a part of integral part of our team, and she hasn’t lost an ounce of this passion. That’s what being a Saturator is, feeling that burning passion to become the best at what you do, no matter how little you know at the start of your journey. We all feel that sensation every day of the week, on every project, not matter how hard or easy it is. That’s because we love what we do, and we’ll never stop loving it.

Well-oiled machine

Perfection, learning, passion. They’re all important, but so is being organized. Funnily enough everyone mentioned this aspect of being a Saturator. Most of us come from freelancing backgrounds, so we can appreciate freedom and doing whatever the hell we want, whenever we want. However, once we started working in Saturized we saw how a well-organized team can achieve great things, and it changed us. It just makes every part of the process easier. From research, to concept, from concept to reality. According to some of our most recent Saturators, it can even be intimidating at times. Which is to be expected. If you previously worked as freelancer, or in an agency that wasn’t as organized, you can’t just jump in and adopt everything in an instant. Thankfully, our project managers are bosses at handling this. Out of years of experience, and the constant search for ways of making our workflow even better, we developed an app through which we track everyone’s progress, motivation, and satisfaction. It was dubbed ReportNest and it really helped us keep a caring eye on everyone. We realize that organization isn’t the most thrilling of subjects, but it’s just so important. And we’re so happy every Saturator knows, and values, this.

“Saturized is my third family”

In the words of our office manager, Judit, she was born into one family, founded a second, and became part of a third – Saturized. However you put it, the sentiment is there. We all feel as if Saturized is home. A place where you feel good, where you are surrounded by great people, and where you do what you love to do. This is a huge part of being a Saturator. That’s why we don’t just look for excellence and professionalism when we hire, we also look for people that are a cultural fit. Because we want them to be our family. We want to support them in all that they do, build them into better and stronger individuals, and by doing so, make our family even stronger. And as in most functioning families, everyone has a voice. Seniority and rank are empty phrases in our home. If something is bothering one of us, or there’s a problem that needs fixing, we know that we can rely on each other and that help is just one question away. Most importantly, this applies out of the office as well. Being a Saturator means being a friend, in and out of the office.

To wrap things up, we’d like to thank every Saturator for being amazing. The past few days during which we were writing this post taught us that we are stronger, and closer, than we knew. Every member of our family is dedicated, passionate, and in love with what we do. We worked hard to get to where we are today, and with Saturized in it’s current form, we are bound to go even further. Thank you for reading, and we hope that you’ll become a part of our family one day, or that you’ll make one yourself. May the Saturization be with you!
